Growth
Growth
Music in advertising is the prostitution of joy. If music is considered love or culture; how can we corrupt her madly rich magnificence to sell gas, slave labour clothing, lame drugs, chemical “cleaners”, cars, presents/landfill…? Is manipulating the human spirit for profit a grossly accepted cultural norm? The magical biodiversity and interconnectivity and obscene beauty of our planet is a gift that is far more precious than growing money for the oh so few.
The solution to the pollution is certainly putting the profiteers before public scrutiny. But they own the papers and the stars. Instead of fancy cars how about iron bars? And the lame song plays in the backs corporate cars, and corporate bars, in corporate stores to corporate whores.
In Desolation Row, Bob Dylan references prostitutes, filth, Freud, The Hunchback, Robin Hood, Cinderella, Romeo, Cain etc. However clever, the superior desolation is the present circus of unbeknownst slavery at the expense of the survival of our grandchildren. A huge fan of Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, grew his chops listening to Albert King, jobbing with Ike and Tina and the like, and reading fantasy sci-fi fiction. Jimi was all about love and sweet licks, but where’s the truth, the responsibility, the critique of humanity’s desolation row? Perhaps a bigger fantasy than Jimi’s beautiful flying saucers is my desire to marry the two: sweet chops and righteous talk. This is my first attempt and with any luck my licks will at least lance an ear.
Rage against the machine - sure thing - and uber rage for the pimps of music. If you’re not rocking about love or protest it’s not rock.
Accept no substitute great rockers - the bling is zee barf.
We really do love each other deep down.

Blooming Bud
Lush gardens grow from sweet love. This love song was written for Nadine R. - that's what good people and horticulturalists do - inspire Growth.
Feed Me
This one is about feeding ego. Boy he’s a hungry one. The cost of food for the ego is too high. Let it starve and go dancing instead. Feed your soul not your hole.
Homeland Security
A typical excuse to buy bombs, jeeps, and guns from your friends who have in turn, bought you.
Thick Rain
You create your reality. So the rain is a pain? No way, it’s water dancing and making love all the way to the sea.
Angel Head
No innuendo here. This song was inspired by jazz pianist Ashley Wey. A "head" in jazz refers to the melody that is played at the beginning and the end of the tune. The chorus changes were borrowed from Beethenhoven’s Moonlight Sonata.
Slander
American media is mostly owned by six corporations. Watch a news story about a war on a mainstream channel and there is bound to be a car or big pharma commercial. It’s not about the lies, it’s about where emphasis is placed. So tired of new cars and trucks being associated with nature and rock.
Support the Groove
This song is in protest of many working musicians who prostitute music for money and are boring still! Nothing worse than playing with musicians who's hearts are closed. Music should always feel ecstatic.
Under Deck Three
The exploitation of the people from the third world is all too obvious on a cruise ship. I worked three hours a day playing standards, pop and dance sets… The people who lived under deck three worked sixteen for way less money. The spirit of these third world workers is inspiring.
Sapling
This one is for the First Nations people. I can't believe how sweet and loving these people are especially in the face of bigotry and ongoing land theft and displacement.
Scream
Bread rises and so does consciousness - but this one is more about cooking up some love.
The Antz
Addiction to computer games seems like a colossal waste of time - especially considering real alternatives like tennis or sex - to name a couple. I wrote this one before Facebook came on the scene and The Antz seems even more pertinent now.
Sprawl
Most major cities in North America had street cars. GM and others who refuse to compete, would systematically buy up light rail companies then sink them. We’re all breathing the same air GM dummy. Gas culture and the suburbs are ascetically and illogically unpleasant, wasteful, unsustainable, hideous and disturbing.
Bully your Boots
One must confront culture, family and the self in order to break a loop or negative cycle. Confrontation of the ego, or becoming aware of identification with compatriots can be painful. You are called a consumer, or a hockey fan or a citizen - but really you are a great artistic creator of time and space. You are part of an incredible whole.
The World Needs Love
It certainly does. My oldest song. A young woman broke my heart. Frustrated, I cathartic this rap. I think the chorus is on point.
Charming
Nice shoes man! But, we will buy chemicals, cars, slave labour plastic clothes and scoff at the alternatives. Yes, I’m charming too.
